"I found describing our artwork purely in terms of atmosphere, tone, mark making and inspiration to be a challenging but ultimately enriching experience. The artwork I received was motivated by tragic event in the loft space of a family home, and whilst a difficult subject, it really made me concentrate not only on the composition, but the use of medium, tone and contrast to sensitively convey emotion. When trying to extend and expand on the original drawing, I wanted to evoke a sense of warmth and hope for the future, by diminishing the main focus point and adding colour.
The workshop prompted me to analyse my own practice processes when producing an artwork, and question whether it is ever completely ‘finished’ or really, in another’s eyes, just a step in a continually expanding and evolving process."
