Mind Machine Animation, digital
"Through discussion with my collaboration partner, Sarah Baker, I learnt about an imagined place of her own creation: a thinking space which offered direction.
Although every step of our exchange challenged me to break away from my usual media, metaphor is something that I am always engaging with, and this is what guided me. I interpreted Sarah’s drawing as the mind and added the pinpricks at intersections as decisions – choices informed by where thoughts meet memories. Shining light behind the drawing refers to how we describe areas of the brain ‘lighting up’ with activity. Each calling upon our own life experiences in creating the work, quite personal conversation with each other made the process of collaboration unique and exciting. For me, the discomfort and fear caused by putting aside one’s own instinctive working process and then affecting the other’s work was eventually negated by the feeling of responsibility to honour the other artist’s aim for the piece."
