SOLO EXHIBITION AT THE DRAWING GALLERY, LONDON 2005

These works were made following regular visits to the Paper Conservation Studio at the V&A in order to explore the 19th century Harry S Parkes collection of papers and paper artefacts - paper for wrapping and carrying medicines in, threads for tying hair whilst dressing, cords for tying presents. Many of the works that were made in response to this research refer not only to the intimate domestic rituals implicit in those items from the collection, but also to the methods of coating and treating the papers themselves - crumpling, oiling, water proofing, stiffening and starching.
