"Overwhelmed by the magnitude of the works to study I decided to arbitrarily ‘cut’ each drawing into a series of vertical slices, to divorce each section from its context. This act felt akin to taking graphite DNA samples which I could use to scrutinise the artists’ use of pencil and mark making, followed by the exploration of how the two works could be integrated."
