"In response to the theme, my original drawing drew upon a place of a half-remembered, half-imagined childhood refuge. This place is grounded in its feeling of familial comfort and lent itself to being a grounding base from which my sister and I could explore outwards into the world through expressing stories of daydream and adventure.  

My response to Fran's drawing was to connect the fragments of shadow, created by light, to create an image of home. I highlighted the idea of a community/refuge being determined by the comfort of its boundary, by painting the island edge with a continuous gold line."
